Remember that Daylight Saving Time ends tomorrow, November 2! As we set our clocks one hour earlier, it’s a good idea to take this opportunity to check your home smoke alarms and other safety devices, as well as your family’s emergency kit, to ensure they’re up to date and ready to go. It’s also important to remember that even gaining an hour overnight can still disrupt your natural rhythms, so please get good rest (resist the temptation to use your “extra” hour to stay up late!) and be vigilant at work and while driving. Stay safe!

Happy Halloween! As we enjoy our costumes and candy, we encourage you and your families and neighbors to take every precaution to make sure this holiday brings only treats and no tricks. For the 32nd year, CDCR’s Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) is holding its annual safety campaign, Operation Boo, to help ensure that all kids can have an enjoyable and secure trick-or-treating experience. Parents can do their part by talking to their children about personal safety before trick-or-treating, as well as year-round. We wish you a very fun and safe celebration!

Happy National First Responders Day! Today our country pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, paramedics, EMTs, firefighters and 9-1-1 operators who put their lives on the line to answer the call for help in times of crisis. We thank our members and our first responder brothers and sisters for your lifesaving hard work, bravery and dedication to duty.

Unfortunately, you never know when someone in your family might become seriously ill. And while your health insurance may cover many of those medical expenses, the critical illness insurance available to CCSO members from The Hartford can help pay your other household bills. If you're thinking of adding or adjusting your coverage, now through November 30 is your annual opportunity to do it!

In many states, including California, the second Monday in October is dedicated to honoring the diverse cultures and traditions of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Indigenous peoples, their invaluable contributions to our nation throughout history, and their enduring resilience and vitality.
